A SERIES OF PAINTINGS DEDICATED TO THE ESSENCE OF COLLECTING. FROM ORDER TO DISORDER.

The process of collecting has been accompanying humans for hundreds of years. At first, taking on a historical and cognitive function and being available for wider public – it has given rise to a museum in order to evaluate at the end to a more peculiar, nearly intimate form. In a sense, a collection becomes a microcosm accessible directly by a collector only. He holds a kind of a power. (…) in fact, a collector wants to be as God who keeps everything in his hand; yet, because he is unable to do it, he does something instead: something similar or symbolic; he collects everything at least partially, holds the whole in a representative selection; in his showcases or cabinets, in his album or office, he creates, like a little God, a world en miniature.“One of the hidden motives behind the collector’s actions is fighting the dispersion and therefore in each of his objects, the whole world is present and in fact arranged.”Collection is a space of a past time, of things that happened. It has a panoramic character of the image captured, remembered episode, returning feeling. It is also a memory space that is not subject to any rules of chronological order. Collector’s melancholic state is marked by nostalgia over the things that are lost forever but may still be repeated in a memory. As Manfred Sommer says: “a set is something materialized, our work, it is a whole that has its own identity.”The collection is thereby expressing our personality, our microcosm that we try to embrace, vesting it with order, creating it and deciding on where to place the items. We collect, accumulate experience just as we collect unusual exhibits. Collector’s most profound desire is to renew the old world – to reestablish the order into disorder of memories and thoughts.

CYKL PRAC MALARSKICH PORUSZAJĄCYCH TEMAT ISTOTY KOLEKCJONOWANIA. OD ŁADU DO NIEŁADU.

Proces kolekcjonowania towarzyszy człowiekowi od setek lat. Pierwotnie, przyjąwszy funkcję historyczno-poznawczą, dostępną dla szerszego grona - daje początek muzeum, a w końcu ewoluuje do bardziej osobliwej, wręcz intymnej formy. Kolekcja staje się w pewnym sensie mikrokosmosem, do którego bezpośredni dostęp posiada wyłącznie kolekcjoner. Dysponuje on swego rodzaju mocą. (…) właściwie zbieracz chce być taki jak Bóg, który wszystko trzyma w swoim ręku; ponieważ jednak tego nie potrafi, robi coś zamiast tego: coś podobnego lub symbolicznego; gromadzi wszystko przynajmniej w części, posiada całość w reprezentatywnym wycinku; w swoich gablotkach lub szafach, w swoim albumie lub w swoim gabinecie tworzy, jak mały Bóg, świat en miniature.„Jednym z ukrytych motywów działania kolekcjonera, jest walka z rozproszeniem i dlatego też w każdym z jego przedmiotów obecny i faktycznie uporządkowany jest cały świat”. Kolekcja to przestrzeń czasu przeszłego, tego co się zdarzyło. Posiada ona panoramiczny charakter uchwyconego obrazu, zapamiętanego epizodu, powracającego wrażenia. Jest to również przestrzeń wspomnienia, które nie podlega żadnym zasadom chronologicznego uporządkowania. Melancholijny stan kolekcjonera naznaczony jest nostalgią za tym, co bezpowrotnie utracone, lecz co powtórzyć można jeszcze we wspomnieniu. Jak zauważa Manfred Sommer: „zbiór jest czymś urzeczywistnionym, jest naszym dziełem, jest całością mającą własną tożsamość.” Kolekcja stanowi zatem wyraz naszej osobowości, nasz mikrokosmos, który próbujemy ogarnąć, nadając mu porządek, kreując go i ustalając miejsce przedmiotów. Najgłębszym pragnieniem kolekcjonera jest odnowa starego świata - ponowne ustanowienie porządku w nieładzie wspomnień i myśli.
